FAQs

Q. Where the name Ambrosial Granola comes from?

A: According to Greek mythology, ambrosia is the food of the Gods living atop Mount Olympus. Closely related to the Gods’ other form of nourishment, nectar, it was believed that those who consume ambrosia achieve immortality.

When we started looking for a name for our product, we felt that Ambrosial was suitable due to its meaning and roots in Greek/Mediterranean culture. We don’t profess that our products will help you achieve immortality, but we can promise delicious, clean and wholesome nourishment that promotes a healthy lifestyle.

Q: What is the Difference between Organic and "Natural" Claims?

A: Organic is a defined and regulated system; “Natural” is a “feel-good” claim. When you buy a product that is USDA Certified Organic you can be confident that it was grown in a way that protects the health of you, your family and the planet. The USDA’s guidelines for natural are voluntary and have no clear definition. The word “natural” can be also used without reference to any standard. According to the Organic Center, Organic food is 25 percent more nutritious, has 30 percent more antioxidants, tastes better, has no harmful pesticides and uses 30 percent less energy per bushel during harvesting than conventional food.

Q: I always thought granola to be high in calorie, fat and sugar content. Is this the case?

A: Traditionally, fat has been used in granola to create” improved” mouth-feel and taste. Indeed, the taste of the majority of granolas is supported by canola oil, which ends up boosting the calorie count. This is where you can find an immediate difference in Ambrosial Granola: We create our Mediterranean-inspired recipes without using any oils, whatsoever. We only rely on the high quality and wholesomeness of our ingredients to create the delectable taste.

Keep in mind, though, not all kinds of fats or carbohydrates are created equal. Our products (much lower in fat when compared gram for gram to other granolas), provide the heart-healthy fats from energy-dense nuts, seeds and whole grains. These are all ingredients packed with essential fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6, documented by numerous studies to be at the center of the beneficial qualities of the Mediterranean diet.

Unsaturated fat is very important in our diet because it helps to lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease. The saturated fat found in our granola is from our organic, unsweetened coconut, which actually helps raise the good cholesterol level. Our products are rich in fiber, protein, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants without refined sugars or evaporated cane juice (very similar to sugar), which can cause spikes in blood sugar levels. Portion control and moderation of wholesome organic foods, combined with an active lifestyle are key to a long term well-being.

Q: How do I compare calorie, fat content and other values from the nutrition facts panel between granolas?

A: The granola serving size varies highly between brands. In this case, you cannot compare nutritionals, sugar and fat content directly through the nutrition facts panel. You can get correct figures, though, by doing the comparison gram for gram based on a realistic portion size. If half cup (55 grams) and not one fourth of a cup (30 grams) is the portion that realistically will fulfill your granola or muesli needs, then divide the calories, calories from fat, total fat, carbohydrates, etc. by 30 to find these values per gram. Multiply those per gram values by your realistic portion size (e.g. ½ cup or 55 grams). Those numbers reflect what you are really getting by consuming the product. Use the same to compare values of different products in the same category.

Your findings will be eye opening!

Q: Is Ambrosial Granola wheat and gluten free?

A: Our products are all wheat free. Gluten allergies vary and some people with allergies to gluten may find that they are also sensitive to oats due to commingling with wheat during processing. Even though oats do not have gluten, our formulas use regular organic oats as opposed to using certified gluten free. If you have gluten allergies and are unsure about whether or not you can tolerate oats, you should talk to your doctor.
